A Comparison: MAC Mineralize Satinfinish vs. MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

Today, I bought a MAC Mineralize Satinfinish foundation in NC42 (my shade) hoping it would be a great base for my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, but I am not liking it that much. I have reasons why....

The Packaging:

Pros: The pump bottle. It's easier to use.

 

Now, a comparison between my favorite Studio Fix Fluid and Mineralize Satinfinish:

What can you see in the above picture? 

Two totally different "finish", of course. I never read the description of Mineralize Satinfinish. I just went straight to the store and bought it. You know when you like something, you just tend to ignore all the labels and go for it? Just like dating! :) 

And oh, Mineralize Satinfinish NC42 is darker than Studio Fix NC42.

What is MAC Mineralize Satinfinish?

Taken from Maccosmetics.com:

"A fluid foundation that blends the natural light-reflecting properties of micro-minerals with a smooth satin finish. Provides a low-to-medium buildable coverage with a slightly luminous look. Contains antioxidants vitamins C and E. Provides everyday SPF 15 sun protection. Long-wearing. Suitable for normal-dry skins."

The description is perfect. It wasn't the product. It was me. The word "Mineral" made me buy this foundation. I never read the description in the first place. I bought this Mineralize Satinfinish simply because I love my Mineralize Skinfinish powder. I thought the "finish" would be similar, but those two items are not even comparable. 

 The Mineralize powder doesn't even have tiny particles that make me "glow". I felt like one of the Cullen clan when I had Mineralize Satinfinish foundation on my face. Ha! Ha! I hated it! I felt so..shiny, even after I set it with a powder. Oh well. 

I wish the Mineralize Satinfinish were like Studio Fix foundation. Absorbs and disperses oil, with a natural matte finish. I really love Studio Fix. It gives me a perfect coverage. Mineralize Satinfinish is for normal-dry skin, and my skin is oily and acne prone. Of course it makes me even shinier as it provides moisture. Note: I hate oily T-Zone!

Mineralize Satinfinish foundation might be perfect for you if your skin is dry, and if you are looking for a sheen or dewy look. Also, this kind of finish is suitable for night events: club and party. I looked horrible in a natural sunlight. So unnatural. I don't like shiny or sparkly face unless I am Alice Cullen. ;) My foundation has to be matte-finish & oil absorbing...so I am returning this tomorrow.

Haul of The Day: Illamasqua Foundation (Pictures & Review)

Happy Sunday everyone!

I can't believe a week has passed by since my last post. Geez, I've been busy with personal and work issues, sorry. Anyway, I just bought some new products, and I am going to share my experience with you guys. :)

Yesterday, I bought these some amazing stuff from Sephora. I was actually eyeing them for quite a while, but I stopped myself from buying any cosmetic product because I have tons of MAC sitting inside my bathroom drawer. Well, it was my BF who said, "Get them and get it over with if you want them so bad". LOL. I am so thankful to have a BF who is very supportive. In many occassions, he had helped me picked my dresses, and my lipsticks. Ha! Ha! :)

This is one of the products that I have tried:

What this foundation does:

My verdict:

I absolutely agree that this Illamasqua Foundation provides a long lasting coverage without feeling or looking heavy. It also covers dark circles like a great concealer, which is a plus. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the color selection. It only has about 9 colors to choose from. I am NC 42 in MAC, and I can't find my exact shade. Bummer! I should be in between RF240 (for deep olive skin with golden undertones) and RF210 (for medium skin with neutral undertones) since I have a medium golden/yellow undertone. RF210 is lighter than my skin color, but I tried it anyway, and of course it made me look pasty/ashy! Blaeh! One thing I hate to see is the color of my face is lighter than my neck! Some girls I know don't mind it, but I sure do! The RF240 color is darker than my overall complexion, but I don't mind it at all. (See above pic). I'd rather look tanned than pasty. LOL. All I have to do is blend it well, and set it with a powder than is a shade lighter, and voila, I am good to go! It does stay for a whole day, and does not cause any breakout. I will definitely repurchase. Oh another thing, IT HAS NO SPF, which is awesome for photography. ;)

I am going to post about others sometimes this week since I have not yet tried them.

Maybelline Fit? Not so fit!

Well, I have heard, and read lots of mixed reviews about this latest product from Maybelline. I refused to listen to bad stuff, so I went ahead and bought one for myself.
Since I have used and tried many concealers and foundations from department stores, and Sephora, I was a bit skeptical about drugstore foundations. THAT, I have to admit. Why? Because it has always been so hard for me to get a good match. It's either too light or too dark. Unfortunately. Besides that, the color is either too pinkish, or too orange. =/
Well, this Maybelline Fit's promises sound good to be true. I guess it works for most girls, but not for me. The reasons are:

• It's too greasy for my skin. A bit runny, and does not provide good coverage. Or maybe I read it wrong? Is it supposed to be a tinted mosturizer kind of foundation? hmmmm.....
• The color matched good at the beginning, but turned ashy on me. =/
• It doesn't stay longer than an hour, max!
• I need to layer with lots of powder foundation which defeats the purpose of having a foundation to begin with. A foundation on a foundation is gross! Too thick. I don't really like it, unless I do a party makeup.
• It gives me red bumps and zits, especially on the T-zone area. Yikes!

Oh well. I just wish that these problems did not occur, you know. I don't want to have a bad skin, so I have to put this away. I think this formula is great for those who do not have a sensitive skin.

30 Day Challenge - Day 04 : My favorite foundation(s)

Hello Lovelies!

I am on my fourth challenge! YAY! Well, I just wanna share about these 2 favorite stuff! I love MAC foundations : Studio Fix Fluid and Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. These two items have been great so far. My skin is sensitive, acne prone and will react if I use a wrong product. So far, these two have not yet caused any zits (knock on wood!) and provide a nice coverage that I want. I had been on acutane due to skin problem (stress can really kill my skin!) and I am staying away from using a thick foundation for more than 8 hours. I normally wash my face everytime I get home from work, just so my face is clean and those pores can breath again. I don't go to bed with my makeup on. To be honest, I did before in the past just because I was darn lazy and it contributed to skin problems. So I learned my lesson.

Well, Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 does provide a medium to full coverage with a minimum sun protection. One thing though, if I wear this foundation and take a picture, I will look like a ghost! Of course it happens because of the SPF ingredients, which is a minus in my book since if I want a sun protection, I can just wear an SPF lotion underneath my foundation or even a primer with an SPF! So, if there's an event, or a party, I have to reach for my other foundation that has no SPF in it. Bummer. Because the foundation coverage is really nice.

Mineralized Skinfinish Natural is mainly for touch-up, or as a setting powder. It also is my go-to foundation if I feel lazy to wear anything. :)

So there, my 2 must have foundations!
